Program:

In 4 Sections
Choreography: Yannis Adoniou
Music: Matt Ingalls, Alfred Schnittke, Jethro DeHart and Arvo Pärt

Each of the four sections draws its inspiration from a different contemporary composer. Matt Ingalls, Alfred Schnittke, Jethro DeHart and Arvo Pärt provide a score that stretches from arrhythmic electro-acoustical clarinet to the spiritual and heartfelt.

This work interprets the rhythmic and dynamic challenges of each score by creating a new physicality through which the dancers relate to one another as well as the space that they inhabit.

Yia Yia
Direction/Choreography: Yannis Adoniou
Music: various artists

Yia Yia is Greek for grandmother. This creation was inspired by and dedicated to Artistic Director, Yannis Adoniou's late grandmother.

Yia Yia is an intensely physical and emotional suite of dances that relates to the memories of a single observer as he travels backward in his life. This journey is guided by the senses of sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste and the memories that they evoke. The musical landscape ranges from the haunting melodies of Chopin to the spirituality of Coltrane and the nostalgia of Greek Rebetiko.

"... a gorgeous, heartfelt suite of dances set to faraway Chopin and sensual Greek folk rhythms, with live guitar riffs by Jethro DeHart."

~ Octavio Roca, San Francisco Chronicle Dance Critic
