Sometimes the further we go away, the deeper we go within.

un state explores the concept of ritual focused on the physical body`s journey to Nirvana. The piece is driven by the rhythmic and ecstatic, vocals and percussion by Korean performer Dohee Lee. It strives to free the body from all restraints, seeking movement that originates from a deep and innate source within the psyche, and is released into the body. The dancer is placed in a circle of ordinary men preparing for a journey to discover the divinity within, the divinity that is shared by all. As we reflect upon the rituals of cultures, old and new, we shed light on our own modern rituals. In the abstracted form of ceremony/dance, un state follows the personal journey of the ritual toward enlightenment.

"The dance, of all the arts, is the one that most influences the soul. Dancing is divine in its nature and is the gift of the gods." - Plato
