Yia Yia (2000)
Yia Yia is Greek for grandmother. This creation is inspired by and dedicated to Yannis Adoniou's late grandmother. Yia Yia is an intensely physical and emotional suite of dances that relaes to the memories of a single observer as he travels backward in his life. This journey is guided by the senses of sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste and the memories that they evoke. The musical landcape ranges from haunting melodies of Chopin to the spirituality of Coltrane and the nostalgia of Greek Rebetiko. "... a gorgeous, heartfelt suite of dances set to faraway Chopin and sensual Greek folk rhythms, with live guitar riffs by Jethro DeHart." VideoPhoto GalleryYia Yia Yia Yia Yia Yia |
