Contemporary Partnering
Artistic Director, Yannis Adoniou, has a unique approach to teaching and choreographing contemporary partnering.
Moving beyond the stereotypical roles of gender or body types in partnering, Adoniou teaches that through awareness of counter balance, weight shift and level changes any partners can find a powerful dynamic unique to them.
He envisions the duet as an exploration of interlocking solos that discover their purpose and meaning through interaction with each other. It is not about one partner supporting while the other partner is dancing. Both must be equally in tune with the other's placement and energy in an intimate and interdependent dialogue.
The workshop will also focus on:
• the use of the head as a directional focus,
• listening to your partner's rhythm and the importance of timing specially for jumps,
• the use of release as a way to support and increase shape and
• the understanding of the standing leg and the use for the inseam for promenade.
Each day of the workshop will begin with a brief warmup and finish with an hour devoted to creating a duet that will apply all these ideas. While second day will be a progression of the fist, it is possible to enroll for a single day only.
Please note that this workshop is for Intermediate to Advanced dancers in strong fitness condition.
